      <image:title>Story - STORY</image:title>
<image:caption>Fate intervenes, when Charles, a young and over-worked American corporate lawyer, finds himself seated beside an elderly Chinese woman with a mysterious past, Auntie Ling on a contemporary flight from Shanghai to New York. After noticing the beautiful bouquet of Poppies that Charles has brought onboard the flight, Auntie Ling reminisces about the early years of her marriage to Shu Zhen, an opium trader in 1940s Shanghai, and tries to coax Charles out of his solitude. Slowly lured into her stories, Charles begins to see the layers beneath Auntie Ling's polished facade. Poppies brought Charles and Auntie Ling together, underscoring the fine line between joy and sorrow...life and death. Influenced by real events, Poppies explores the cross-cultural and cross-generational relationships that develop between strangers in mid-air.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Story - A NOTE FROM THE WRITER / DIRECTOR</image:title>
<image:caption>At the root of Poppies are the universal ideas of love, fate and destiny, told through a contemporary lens exploring cultural values, age and gender. Was Charles destined to sit beside Auntie Ling, the one woman who can save him in his time of need? Or was he lucky – had he not brought the poppies on board the flight, what would happen to him? Like the character of Charles, I was absorbed in a stressful job that left me dispassionate and questioning my values (individual pursuits vs family), and my ideas on types of love. Also like Charles, I was lucky to have met a figure like Auntie Ling in Singapore, a colleague of mine at my first job in an investment bank. Poppies is a deeply personal story, based upon my experience of living and working in Asia for 7 years and the impression that Asian (and Chinese) culture has left on my perception and values. The film is not only a personal expression of experience, but also an important story for diversity – strengthening the relationship between Asia and America, and supporting the Asian-American community in the entertainment industry.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Story - STORY</image:title>
<image:caption>A routine life is disrupted when David, a research assistant dreaming of becoming an astronaut, finds a lost application letter from Erin Taylor in London, England. Frustrated with his academic research, David opens the letter and becomes infatuated with Erin’s assertiveness and quest for knowledge and understanding, and excited by the prospect of making a new friend from a new world. Erin is adventurous - David’s complete opposite. As their letter’s become more intimate, so do David’s fantasies of a romantic relationship with the free spirited Erin. When Erin reaches out to David for help, he must decide if he is ready to confront his fantasy. Will reality meet the expectations of the fantasy he has built in his mind? Although set in 1960s Americana, “Erin” explores the power of imagination and danger of expectations, something particularly relevant in today’s environment of social media and on-line versions of self.</image:caption>

<image:caption>“Albatross” is a dark, character-driven, drama, which examines the concept of self (identity, ethnicity and sexual-orientation) in the context of society, while illustrating the compromises individuals are willing to make to feel as though they belong. Two seemingly separate narratives, spanning some 30 years converge at a dinner party between two newly introduced couples in 1959 New England, revealing that the attendees know much more about one another than they first thought.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Story - STORY</image:title>
<image:caption>After moving to a new town, a young bi-racial couple, Elizabeth and Thomas Miller, are at a cross-roads: they are childless, and he remains an unpublished writer. After five years of marriage, Elizabeth’s become tired of cutting the checks, while Thomas has grown more reclusive. Consequently, his work has suffered to the point that his publisher has encouraged him to ditch his magnum opus to write a more commercially viable romance. Carol and Dr. Lloyd Burke have built an imposing façade glorifying the societal ideals of the 1950s; an impressive home, prominent role at the Country Club, and son studying medicine. But, behind closed doors, the couple’s haunted by the cracks in the foundation of their relationship. Despite being represented by an esteemed gallerist, Bertram Fontaine, the failed housewife seeks validation in every encounter. Her husband, practices controversial methods of psychiatric treatment, including dosing patients with LSD. Through drug-induced memories, a 30-year-old mystery surfaces and reveals Thomas’ racy novel hits a little too close to home. Was this night a coincidence, or were there more sinister intentions?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Story - A NOTE FROM THE WRITER / DIRECTOR</image:title>
<image:caption>Would you reject a good omen? Would you recognize one when you see it? Creating a film during the pandemic has been an incredibly rewarding, albeit challenging experience. Not only was I tasked with developing a story that met the requirements of a COVID-free production, but also with writing a film within those constraints that exemplified my aesthetic and beliefs as a filmmaker. “Albatross” is a deeply personal story that examines timeless issues; race, gender, sexuality and belonging, through a period lens. Conceptually, I am fascinated by the ways we cope with challenging experiences to either grow or stagnate. Social media encourages us to react emotionally to the impact alternate opinions have on our community; it’s become too easy to block an account and categorize others as either fitting within or outside of our own bubble. With “Albatross”, I wanted to go back to a time where differing ideas had to be discussed intellectually. The film is riddled with opposing philosophical perspectives, forcing the characters to question the stability of their respective relationships and consider how the past or future will continue to nurture or deteriorate them. What happens when you can’t leave the dinner table? Bringing this story from page to screen required the support of a solid cross-border team and cast (I was adamant about tapping into Canada’s rich theatre community). After 12 months of development, production and post, I’m proud to introduce “Albatross”. Please enjoy our film, and my first foray into feature filmmaking.]</image:caption>

I was drawn to my character, lamenting the lost opportunity of a relationship with the love of his life. <image:title>Team - Myles Yaksich</image:title>
<image:caption>WRITER / DIRECTOR Through his short films, Myles Yaksich has created an appealing body of work that explores human experience on a global scale, with a particular focus on the complexity of self-discovery through interactions with strangers. Living abroad for more than a decade has undoubtedly informed his work, whether it be the grieving workaholic who searches for answers in the elderly passenger beside him (“Poppies”), or the young academic who questions his sexuality after an intimate pen-pal relationship (“Erin”). His films tap into universal themes that expand the definition of home, family and belonging. Myles’ feature debut, “Albatross”, is a progression of this trajectory. His unique perspective and interest in stories about societal groups establishing roots, and the contrast between progress and tradition are laced throughout the narrative. Working with an intensely collaborative and supportive team has enabled Myles to exercise his strong creative control, ultimately making his debut film, “Albatross” so fascinating, fresh and powerful. Myles’ films have screened around the world at over 40 festivals (including premieres at the Academy Qualifying LA Shorts Fest), receiving over 30 awards including Best Writer, Best Director and Best Film.</image:caption>

On my end, it made time management even more crucial, I had to work fast, yet make sure what we were getting was of the best possible quality. An operatic aria performed by rising young soprano Liv Redpath, secondly a mysterious and disturbingly hypnotic piece used as a tool in psychoanalysis and lastly, the score - which morphs between overwhelming romance and hallucinogenic phantasy. Prepare yourself for an emotional and satisfying journey!” Emmy award-winning Hollywood composer Nicholas Pike has scored films ranging from the family- oriented Captain Ron, Return to Me and Virginia’s Run to darker films like Fear Dot Com, Sleepwalkers and The Shining mini-series. He has also scored large scale music videos including Michael Jackson's Ghost, You Rock My World and Will Smith's Wild, Wild West. Most recently he scored Amazing Stories for Steven Spielberg and the Apple + streaming service, as well as the documentaries 100 Years about Native American activist Elouise Cobell, Fiddlin’ about the roots of Bluegrass music and the upcoming Viva Verdi!, which features his composition Sweet Dreams of Joy performed by international soprano Ana Maria Martinez. Nicholas is known for his innovative use of instruments and sounds to create music, while also exhibiting a wide stylistic range and facile command of both orchestral and electronic composition.</image:caption>

<image:caption>EDITOR “Letting yourself into Myles’ universe is always exciting. You never know what to expect, but one can be certain to be taken to unexplored waters where fantasy merges into reality. And I knew it wouldn’t be different with Albatross. As the dailies would come in I would see myself more than curious, but anxious to see the next day.” Born in Brazil, having lived in Berlin, Los Angeles and now based in New York, Mariana was always fascinated by a multicultural world and storytelling, whether listening or building stories in the edit room. Always moved by the curiosity and the desire to explore. With more than twelve years of experience as an editor and assistant editor, Mariana worked on a wide range of content, from feature documentaries and unscripted TV shows, to short narrative films and branded content. Her work has aired on two major Brazilian cable networks and has been screened and awarded at several festivals around the globe. In 2017, the documentary “80 e Tal” was a Newport Beach Film Festival Official Selection and won Best Editing, Best Film, and Best Soundtrack at the International Surf Film Festival Anglet, in France. Most recently she worked on projects for Vox, Hulu, YouTube Originals, Quibi, Globosat and more.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Albatross - ALBATROSS</image:title>
<image:caption>“Albatross” is a dark, character-driven, drama, which examines the concept of self (identity, ethnicity and sexual-orientation) in the context of society, while illustrating the compromises individuals are willing to make to feel as though they belong. Two seemingly separate narratives, spanning some 30 years converge at a dinner party between two newly introduced couples in 1959 New England, revealing that the attendees know much more about one another than they first thought.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Albatross - STORY</image:title>

      <image:title>Albatross - A NOTE FROM THE WRITER / DIRECTOR</image:title>

      <image:title>Erin - STORY</image:title>

      <image:title>Poppies - STORY</image:title>

      <image:title>Poppies - A NOTE FROM THE WRITER / DIRECTOR</image:title>
